Cookstown were at home on Saturday playing against Priorians and were determined to continue their winning streak. Priorians are always a tough match and Cookstown knew they had to start strong. Cookstown started off driving at the Priorians defence with C.Brown attacking right from the start and pushing into the Priorians circle. The ladies pushed forward as a team and played their passing game and linked well between midfield and forward. Priorians fought back hard and were able to make it into Cookstowns circle, but B.Williamson was able to deal with any shots on target. Cookstown made a strong attack with J.Richardson, R.Brown and C.Brown linking between each other driving towards the Priorians circle. C.Brown spotted L.Johnston free so made the pass and then L.Johnston drove into the circle and put the ball past the keeper making the score 1-0 to Cookstown. Priorians came back strong and kept attacking but great defence from G.Brown resulted in them not reaching the circle. Great links between R.Smith and R.Brown made Cookstown attack up the right and ended up in the Priorians yet again. Determination from L.McAlleece led to her winning a short corner for Cookstown. A slip from C.Brown to R.Brown confused the defence and then a slip back to C.Brown caught them out and resulted in C.Brown scoring leaving the score 2-0 just before half time. Another few attacks from Priorians were quickly broken down by R.Smith, R.Campbell and R.Miller. At the end of the first half the score was 2-0.
After half time Priorians came back attacking strong winning a few shot corners which were quickly stopped by B.Williamson. The midfield kept pushing forward with attacks coming from the left and right but they just couldn’t get past the eager Priorians defence. It was end to end action through the second half. Both teams were attacking strong but neither team could find the back of the net. On the final whistle Priorians won a short corner, Cookstown knew they had won the game but wanted to keep a clean slate. They defence worked hard to keep the ball out and managed to keep the score 2-0 at the end of the second half. Hopefully Cookstown can keep up the winning in their next game.
