Big Weekend for All Teams
14/02/2019

There is a huge weekend of hockey ahead with massive games across all the leagues.
Cookstown Men travel to YMCA Hockey Club for a 3.15pm start at Wesley College. Cookstown sit three ahead of the Dubliners in the EYHL on five points with half the matches played.

“This will be a real tough match,” said Reds striker Michael Kerr. “I’ve no doubt that YM will be targeting this match for points as they’ve a fairly meaty few games after it.

“I suspect that they will have improved since we played them in the opening game of the season. They haven’t been far away in any match since and that tenacity is something we’ll have to guard against.

“We had a pretty torrid time of it against Garvey and Bann last weekend but those two run outs will have got our players ready for this one. We’ll look to our set piece for goals and our big players to make metres into YM’s territory.

“It really is a must win so it should be a good, edgy affair at Wesley on Saturday.”
Cookstown II are also on the road and have a huge game against Banbridge Hockey Club II at 1pm on Saturday. The two teams top JL1 and the winner will all but have one hand on the trophy with only a handful of games remaining. Any dropped points are likely to be seized upon by Lisnagarvey II in third place.
Ashley Gillis’ Cookstown III also have a top of the log match in JL2. They are home to South Antrim Hockey Club II at 1pm. Their opponents sit just behind the second-placed Thirds on the same points but with two games in hand. Reds Gareth Cuddy, Chrissy Burns and Graeme Black will want to keep up their amazing goal-scoring feats for this one!

Cookstown IV are home to Bangor Mens Hockey Club III at 2.30pm. A loss away to Newry II put them back down the table, but it is very tight in JL3 and the Fours will be looking to kick on now that Captain Michael Miller is back from injury to lead them.

Cookstown Ladies are away to Owls Ladies Hockey Club in the Plate Competition having scored a brilliant victory in the last round. Their match at Roughfort is at 1pm. Owls are a skilful unit and like Cookstown have a few youngsters amongst their number. This promises to be a keenly contested cup encounter.
