Though only a few games in, the encouraging start to the season must have the Reds looking at promotion back to Senior 2 at the first attempt.
“We’d not like to get ahead of ourselves just yet,” said Cookstown’s co-captain, Rebecca Hughes. “We’ve had a great start to the season but I want us to concentrate on the match against Enniskillen rather than where we finish up in the league.”
Enniskillen have only had one match this season, a 1-0 defeat away to Derg Valley.
“We were especially pleased with our short corner routine against Derg Valley and I hope that we’ll have the opportunity to further work on that against Enniskillen. It will probably be another stormy night so it’s super that we’ve had a bit of practice playing in those sort of conditions.
“The great thing is that we have a number of players putting in top quality performances and that will drive everyone on to do better. Hopefully we can continue on an upward trend this week.”
Cookstown II have a tough looking match at home to Lisnagarvey II in the JL1 League Cup group stage. Last week they had a 3-0 win at Shawsbridge against Instonians II, but Garvey will be another tough outing at 1pm on Saturday.
Having had two 4-4 draws in their two JL2 League Cup games to date, Cookstown III will be going out to get their first win of the new season against NI Civil Service II at 2.30pm. The Reds will be hoping that Ethan Greaves keeps up his excellent start to the season in goal.
Cookstown IV take to Steelweld Park at 4pm against Kilkeel III in the JL3 League Cup group stage. This is always a tough fixture for the Reds but home advantage should tell for Michael Millar’s men.
