Reds lose Ulster Indoor crown
27/01/2020

Cookstown Men lost their Ulster Indoor Championship crown to Banbridge by the narrowest of margins on Sunday at Jordanstown.

The Reds beat Queen’s University 4-2 in their opening game with Stuart Smyth, Jack Haycock, Dan Crooks and Scotty McCabe scoring the goals.
However, a 1-1 draw with Banbridge in the decider – with the Cookstown goal coming from Smyth – meant that the title went back to County Down with the Havelock Park men.
“Losing on goal difference is a tough one but congratulations to Bann,” said Cookstown captain Mark Crooks. “Hopefully they’ll put in a good performance and bring the title back to Ulster.
“It was a very close game with not many chances, but I think we more than edged it and should’ve put the game to bed when they had two men in the sin-bin in the first half.
“Their goal on the counter was a body blow but we battled back well and I genuinely think that on another day our disallowed goal just before the whistle would’ve stood.”
