Stewart smashes hat trick in big win over Enniskillen
07/10/2019

Cookstown Ladies had an incredible 7-0 win over Enniskillen at Steelweld Park on Friday to make it three wins on the bounce and send them top of the table.

Not only that, but the Reds have yet to concede a goal this season while scoring 16 in three Ulster Senior 3 games.
“It was absolutely fabulous,” said Cookstown captain, Jessica Greer. “Just like last week, the passing, everything, was so slick and it was just so much fun to be out there playing for Cookstown.
“We play PSNI next week and we know it’ll be incredibly tough. We are trying to take each game as it comes, to identify what we are doing well and to keep doing it.”
Greer got the goalscoring started for Cookstown from a short corner before Rachel Stewart took over, smashing her second hat trick in two games. New recruit Jodie Brown scored her first goal of the season with Julie McLean and Rebecca Hughes completing Cookstown’s account.
“The whole team played so well together, linking well from the defence to the forward line. There were some outstanding plays which led to some top class goals. Well done to Corrin McWhirter who was a worthy Solo Fuels MVP.”
Cookstown II lost for the first time this season, beaten 2-1 by a quality Lisnagarvey II side in the JL1 League Cup.
Chances were few and far between with most of the action taking place in the midfield. Garvey took the lead from the short corner set piece before Raymond Miller squared the game when he scored from the second phase at penalty corner time. Garvey bagged the winner with just five minutes remaining with a well finished deflection. Greg Allen was Solo Fuels MVP.
Cookstown III had a disappointing day in dismal conditions, losing out by 4-2 to NI Civil Service II in the JL2 League Cup. Cookstown IV’s game against Kilkeel III was called off as their opposition were unable to field a team.
